About Our School

At Wieland, our mission is to constantly nurture and inspire all learners.

We also hold these core beliefs:

  1. All students and staff are passionate lifelong learners that respectfully learn together in a safe environment that is engaging, supportive, individualized, and consistent.   

  2. By modeling and encouraging perseverance and strength of character we, as educational professionals, will foster high expectations and continued growth of all learners.

  3. We are composed of a multitude of diverse cultures and are richer because of our many cultures that include our Vietnamese bilingual program. 

  4. Foundational skills are essential building blocks that help our students reach higher levels of thinking and meaningful application. 

  5. Caring relationships between all stakeholders are facilitated by clear communication and mutual respect, in the interest of the whole child.

  6. We believe that data is important to inform our practice, but is only one piece of our learning experience at Wieland Elementary.

Wieland Elementary School was named in honor of the Wieland family, who first settled in the Pflugerville area more than 150 years ago.  Martin Wieland, Sr., immigrated from Dessau, Germany in 1854.  While living in a tent, he cleared the land and built a home of fieldstone using natural resources.  That home in the area of Dessau Road and Fish Lane still stands today.  Later, brothers Albert and Fritz and sister Hermine joined Martin.  They worked hard to make their living off the land, building churches and schools to help develop a stronger community.  
 
Generations of Wielands were educated in Pflugerville Independent School District, which prepared them well to enter the workforce or pursue higher education before entering professional careers.  Through time, descendants of the Wielands continued to thrive in this area, serving as leaders in school, church, civic, charitable, medical, engineering, student and agricultural organizations as well as serving in the military.  The Wieland heritage is the story of pride, honor and determination to not only survive, but to be contributing members to the community they call home.

The staff is exceptional, creating a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters growth and learning. The classrooms are immaculate, providing a perfect setting for young minds to thrive.  The bilingual program is outstanding, seamlessly blending language arts with cultural education, enriching our children's understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures.

Our family has belonged to the Wieland Community for the last 14 years. Our children received a foundational and holistic education at WLES which prepared them for success at each of the next stages they encountered... We will forever be indebted to WLES for giving each of our five children the best beginnings to their life-long journey of learning and growing.
